Roatan, Bay Islands Honduras
I hear you calling!!! I promise to return!
So here is the deal, I am a little partial to Honduras having been stationed on the mainland in the late 90s. I was very fortunate to call the Bay Islands my back yard, and boy did I play! Being in charge of our Morale Welfare and Recreational (MWR) programs, I added Roatan and Utila to our monthly Itinerary to dive, dive and dive more. The Bay Islands then, was a hush hush kind of back packer’s paradise. Lush tropical forest filled the interior, shades of blue dominated the coast line, the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef system was unspoiled and lured you to its depths like a Greek Siren. Having recently returned (March 2021), the Bay Islands has not lost her charm. While there are more paved roads, businesses, hotels and resorts, this is still a bucket list destination. Underwater, environmental and economic impacts are slowly taking their toll but still, you can find gems throughout the sea. In search of my illusive mermaid, I have captured a few photos to share.
